Edinburgh, Scotland Student Exchange Program — A Tour of Hong Kong's Famous Attractions

10/10/2026

A Day of Discovery and Friendship on Saturday, October 10th, our students embarked on a memorable cultural exchange day, hosting visiting students from Edinburgh, Scotland. The day was designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and provide our students with a fantastic opportunity to practice their English communication skills in a real-world setting.

The day began at Diamond Hill, where our students, dressed in their school sportswear, warmly greeted the Scottish students. Acting as knowledgeable tour guides, they first led the group to the serene Chi Lin Nunnery. Amidst the tranquil lotus ponds and elegant wooden architecture, our students introduced the history of the Tang dynasty-inspired structures and shared insights into Buddhist traditions. This peaceful setting allowed for initial conversations, breaking the ice and sparking curiosity.

From there, the group journeyed to the vibrant Wong Tai Sin Temple. The atmosphere shifted from quiet contemplation to a lively cultural immersion. Our students explained the local customs of worship and the famous practice of "kau chim" (fortune-telling sticks), offering the Scottish students a unique glimpse into local beliefs.

The day continued with a delicious lunch at a traditional Chinese restaurant in Mong Kok, where they all shared classic dim sum and other local dishes. The afternoon was spent navigating the bustling streets of Mong Kok, exploring the famous Ladies' Market and Fa Yuen Street. Our students confidently guided their new friends through the maze of stalls, helping them bargain for souvenirs and explaining the dynamic market culture of Hong Kong.

This exchange was more than just a tour; it was a profound learning experience. Our students stepped up as cultural ambassadors, translating not just language but also the nuances of our city's heritage and daily life. Watching them interact with the Scottish students—explaining, laughing, and sharing stories—was a testament to their confidence and adaptability. The activity successfully took language learning out of the classroom and into the heart of the city, creating lasting memories and forging genuine international friendships.
